The comedians of late night television had plenty to say about Wednesday’s opening of the public impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, and the latest twists and turns in the scandal.

“Full Frontal” host Samantha Bee explained why it was “not a good start for Republicans.”

“They didn’t manage to throw the kind of distracting, conspiracy-filled spectacle they’re so good at,” she said. “Oh, Trump is going to be so mad at what a terrible job they did defending him.”

Actor Tony Hale jumped back into character as Gary from “Veep” to become assistant to Jimmy Fallon’s Trump on “The Tonight Show.”

“The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah aired a supercut of Republicans’ questions that totally ignored Trump’s conduct:

Seth Meyers of “Late Night” mocked Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) over one of his lines of questioning:

“The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert said it’s what “we’ve been praying for since the beginning of the Trump presidency ― the end of the Trump presidency.”

Colbert’s show also broadcast the ABCs of the impeachment inquiry:

And aired a spoof ad for some fact-canceling headphones:

“The Late Late Show” host James Corden made a Kardashians-themed gag:

Jimmy Kimmel spent his own birthday imagining how Trump kept up with the hearings:

Conan O’Brien cracked jokes that he’s been telling for months:

And also poked fun at the infographics that flashed up on some televised coverage of the hearings:
